What is your 'big power move'?

What is your big power move? 'The Power Move is always a simple bodily movement that punches through any psychological resistance. It is the body acting while the mind carries on hesitating, delivering you immediately into a new moment, where there’s nothing to hesitate over.'

One of my power moves is throwing back the covers and saying 'today is going to be. great day' as a starting point to the physical action of getting out of bed when it's early and I'm tired and its really not what I feel like doing.

Or when I'm about to do a heavy deadlift - I will grip the bar as tight as I can, take a big breath, make eye contact with myself in the mirror and just 3-2-1 GO before I have time to think too much.

Jumping into the pool and starting to swim right away instead of dipping a toe into the cold water....

Jumping up and down or rocking my arms across my body while taking big breaths to warm up for yoga....

The physical act of pushing down on the keys of my laptop when I have to start writing some project or essay even if the words are not really making sense loosens up the brain/fingers to start going....

In some ways this goes along with the quote 'it's easier to act yourself into a new way of thinking, then think yourself into a new way of acting'.

A big part of coaching is this. The mobilisation of power through conversation, listening and asking insightful questions that help you unlock what the first, right, next step actually is and then helping you to just take it!!

Often there will be exercises that bring action into the room or coaching conversation. Through rehearsing conversations out loud or moving the body through a scale of 1-10 steps to see how you feel about something or what options you have in front of you. The big power move breaks the tension of thoughts and options circling endlessly and helps you to know what 'feels' right and 'unstick' yourself from a stalemate of options and possibilities or hazy confusion.

That is why coaching can achieve quick and powerful results in even one session. It forces you to take action to move forward and not circle tentatively around the problem your facing, whatever it might be!

So, my question for you is. What is your big power move?

What physical action stirs you into forward movement?

If you don't have one, take a minute to identify one thing that you really procrastinate on - it could be getting out of bed, or washing the dishes, or emptying the garbage can - find a physical action you can take that can be your big power move, a way of your body taking control of your wishy-washy mind before it even has a chance to come up with a excuse for why this is a bad idea.

it could be a big clap or 3-2-1 Go, it could be 3 quick inhales and exhales, it could be anything! Think about what would work for you and try it for one week. Every time you're faced with that small choice that you so often struggle to take action on - pull out your big power move and just go!!!
